The SETE, first european scientific society on therapeutic patient education has been created in Paris in 2002 under the initiative of researchers and practitioners in this field. The founding chairman of the SETE has been Professor Jean Philippe Assal, the well known pioneer of therapeutic patient education.

More than 150 members in 11 medical disciplines and specialties, representing 12 categoriezs of health professionals,, originating from 6 europeans countries. The executive board is composed of 7 governors from 3 countries.

There are actually 2 societies affiliated to SETE : one in Spain and one in France
